SBI TT Rates Archive & Tax Compliance

SBI TT (Telegraphic Transfer) Buying Rates are the foreign-exchange rates adopted by the State Bank of India for buying foreign currency and are used for Indian tax compliance to convert foreign-currency income—such as salary, dividends, interest, capital gains and other foreign income—into Indian rupees on the legally prescribed date. For income earned up to FY 2025–26 (AY 2026–27), the conversion is governed mainly by Rule 115 read with Rule 26 of the Income-tax Rules, 1962; from Tax Year 2026–27 onwards, the corresponding provisions are Rules 206 and 207 of the Income-tax Rules, 2026, under the Income-tax Act, 2025. Taxpayers should retain the applicable SBI TT rate and calculation as supporting records for ITR, TDS and relevant foreign-income or foreign-asset disclosures.

Known Limitations & Workarounds

Historical Availability: Historical SBI TT Buying Rates are available from 2 July 2020 onwards in commonly used public archives. Earlier rates may require independent supporting records, archived SBI rate sheets, or confirmation from SBI.
Weekends and Bank Holidays: SBI rate sheets may not be available for weekends and banking holidays. Where the prescribed date falls on a non-publishing day, taxpayers commonly use the immediately preceding available SBI TT Buying Rate and retain the relevant rate sheet and calculation as supporting documentation.
FBIL/RBI Reference Rates: FBIL reference rates—often accessed through RBI or FBIL archives—are market benchmark rates and are not the same as SBI TT Buying Rates prescribed for foreign-income conversion under the Income-tax Rules. They may be used only as a reference or estimation aid when an SBI rate cannot be located.
